Your Weekly Guide to Leveraging Technology in College Counseling
Welcome to Tech-Neill-ogy #109!
1825 subscribers! Wow! Thanks for joining me on this journey.
In any case, this week’s newsletter has some great articles on AI that I think everyone should read. Of course, there are some cool tools and a great prompt shared as well.
As for things here, the first five weeks of the school year have been a blur, but it seems things are slowing down (or stabilizing anyway). This week I’ll head down to Curitiba for the AI4GoodLearning conference. I’ll be presenting a couple of times, once on “Engaging Students with AI in Counseling” and once on “Effective Use of AI in Counseling.” Looking forward to it!
Finally, I heard from MANY of you who were unable to attend the DreamCollege.ai webinar that I participated in this past Tuesday. If you are interested, here is the recording on Youtube:
Anyway, enjoy the rest of the newsletter!

Sometimes I cannot remember if I’ve previously shared a prompt! Apologies if I have already posted this one, but it is a gem. I use it a lot with my UCLA courses to keep them current.
Act as a research analyst and identify the top three most significant developments in college counseling from the past 90 days. For each development, provide a concise summary of what happened, name the key players or institutions involved, and explain the potential second-order effects for professionals in the field (such as policymakers, investors, startup operators, or researchers). Include at least one credible source or citation for each development. Emphasize clarity, relevance, and why each event matters in the broader context of the field’s evolution. Your output should be structured, insightful, and actionable.
Please, if you have any great prompts or ideas, please share! Send me a note at [email protected].

If you know of any upcoming events related to AI or tech and college counseling/admissions, please let me know! There’s been a growth in these events that I find difficult to stay on top of!

Here’s an interesting one that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately as I help families pivot to non-US options, trying to get them to understand how university degrees elsewhere in the world can be accomplished in only three years:
Anyway, best wishes for a great week! Happy counseling!
Jeff
