Welcome to Tech-Neill-ogy #122!

Happy New Year, all!

For me, the holidays are a time for reflection, and I’ve spent a lot of time looking back at the growth of this newsletter. In May 2023, when I started this work, the newsletter had 33 subscribers. Now, to start 2026, there are 2,334 of you! Wow. That’s amazing to think about.

That said, over the past few weeks, I’ve also spent some time thinking about the future. I’ll share some of my thoughts in coming newsletters, but I’m very excited for 2026 and what it has in store.

I hope all of you are entering the new year with renewed energy and positivity.

In any case, enjoy the rest of the newsletter!

A big 2026 starts now

Most people treat this stretch of the year as dead time. But builders like you know it’s actually prime time. And with beehiiv powering your content, world domination is truly in sight.

On beehiiv, you can launch your website in minutes with the AI Web Builder, publish a professional newsletter with ease, and even tap into huge earnings with the beehiiv Ad Network. It’s everything you need to create, grow, and monetize in one place.

In fact, we’re so hyped about what you’ll create, we’re giving you 30% off your first three months with code BIG30. So forget about taking a break. It’s time for a break-through.

So I have been tinkering with ChatGPT as a “thought partner” (a term you’ve probably heard me use before), and this prompt was really interesting. I substituted the [topic] for [making the decision to apply to a US university through an Early Decision or Restrictive Early Action policy]. The first thing that was startling was that it thought for about 20 minutes!

Act as a researcher and strategist. Create a full presentation on [topic] using credible sources. Include real statistics, case studies, expert quotes, citations on each relevant slide, practical insights, and end with a references list. Make every slide educational, engaging, and defensible.

But then it put out this slide deck. Pretty impressive…

Please, if you have any great prompts or ideas, please share! Send me a note at [email protected].

That’s it for this week. But, first, here is this week’s non-tech article by Patrick O’Connor. His newsletter/posts are 100% worth the time. I’ve been following him for years. And this one I just love…

Especially this:

School counselors have many goals, including the desire to make the world a better place. Start the new year off on the right foot, call your grad school, and tell them to offer a required course in college counseling. Don’t make the next generation of counselors learn the hard way, if indeed they learn at all.

Patrick O’Connor, Ph.D.

Happy counseling!
