Your Weekly Guide to Leveraging Technology in College Counseling

Welcome to newsletter #19!

I’ve enjoyed a busy week (see LinkedIn post here) on my first trip to Bogota, Colombia for two, back-to-back conferences: the first was the BMI-THE Colombia International Schools Forum and the second was the CIS Latin America Institute on International Admission & Guidance. Both were great experiences, and I had the good fortune to be able to explore Bogota some. In any case, there is much to share this week in AI and technology.

And, thanks, as always, to those of you who share resources with me. I appreciate all of it! In any case, feel free to drop me an email at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you!

Tech & Learning’s Recent AI Resources

I am an avid Duolingo user — over 411 consecutive days and counting — as I try to master Portuguese, but this ChatGPT prompt really excited me. I was entirely surprised by the usefulness here. Give it a try:

Act as a highly-skilled [language] tutor. Reply to me in [language] using simple words. Correct any mistakes in my responses and ask follow-up questions. Use English only to explain errors.

As always, if you’d like to explore some of the other prompts I’ve shared here and elsewhere, check out this link. If you have any great prompts or questions about prompting, send me a note at [email protected].

That’s it for this week. In closing, I wanted to share one new thought. I’ve presented dozens of times to all sorts of audiences on artificial intelligence. There is some resistance seated in basic fears still. In response to this, I have stopped referring to ChatGPT as a tool and instead as a thought partner. From what I have seen in making this small shift is that it changes the way that people think about these resources and, most importantly, how to use them! Think about it! I’d love to hear from you if you have any thoughts!

Happy counseling,

Jeff
