With application season upon us, this is a helpful use case for UCAS/UK letters of reference. It is our practice to solicit 5-6 sentences about a student alignment with the requisite skills related to their intended field of study from each teacher. Then, with “chat history and sharing” on ChatGPT turned off, I plug this prompt in followed by the collected quotations.

I need your assistance in crafting a letter of reference for a student of mine who applying to UK universities. First, I will tell you how to write the letter, and then I will provide you with comments written by teachers. The letter must be between 3800 and 4000 characters total. The letter is about [student name]. The letter should clearly articulate why she is a good candidate to study [course], and it should use as evidence only the comments provided below by her teachers. Please use direct quotes as you are able, but do not provide the teachers’ names in the letter. Instead, only cite the courses they teach. There is no need for salutations or signatures.

I hope this gives you a little time back! As always, if you’d like to explore some of the other prompts I’ve shared here and elsewhere, check out this link. If you have any great prompts or questions about prompting, send me a note at [email protected].

Busy days ahead in “Suck-tober,” and I wish you all the best with all you do to support your students!

Happy counseling,

Jeff
