Your Weekly Guide to Leveraging Technology in College Counseling
Welcome to Tech-Neill-ogy #39!
I am sitting in the airport heading back to São Paulo through Istanbul after a second week on the road, this time in Amman, Jordan, my first visit here. It has been a really amazing week. Although my tour guide canceled my trip to Petra and wadi Rum the night before I was supposed to head there, I did salvage the experience by thoroughly enjoying the city of Amman. That was only a little part of the week, as I was full-on with a I look forward to coming back. That said, it was only a little bit of tourism and a lot of work this week with a ~20-hour training I led for Jordanian counselors. A great bunch and very rewarding.
That said, there’s a lot of interesting news in technology this week, and I certainly hope you enjoy the newsletter!
Always feel free to drop me an email at [email protected]. Special thanks to those of you who always seem to reach out! I look forward to hearing from you!
While working here in Jordan this week, I was tinkering with ChatGPT and how it might help me. Here’s a useful prompt I encountered:
Provide me with ideas, methods, and step-by-step instructions on how to build a network and form partnerships for [industry]. Also, suggest a few key individuals or companies I should approach first
Industry = [Insert here]
I’ve never tried this feature of ChatGPT before, but here is the link to the results when I chose the industry to be “high school college counseling.” (Keep in mind always that if you merely say “college counseling” when referencing our profession to ChatGPT, it often assumes you’re a college-based SEL counselor.)
Some previous prompts are shared at this link. However, if you have any great prompts or questions about prompting, send me a note at [email protected].
I’ve recently set up a YouTube channel to which I’m (slowly) moving my recordings. Take a look, and please consider subscribing!
One of the things I’ve been looking at lately is the reality that while I know of only a handful of universities that have embraced an AI policy, I am seeing a proliferation of such policies among high schools, particularly independent schools in the US. If you know of any, please send them my way! I’d appreciate it.
And happy counseling,
Jeff
