Your Weekly Guide to Leveraging Technology in College Counseling

Welcome to Tech-Neill-ogy #50!

I enjoyed a week spent at NAFSA. You can read more here. I have some reflecting to do and some practices to apply, thanks to the conference, and there were some excellent networking opportunities.

The newsletter is up to 745 followers thanks to many of your efforts. Thank you!

I continue to be impressed by College Genie. I think we are hitting an inflection point in the evolution of AI and LLMs where the specificity of the tools (“thought partners”) are reaching even the most niche of industries, including college counseling. As such, I anticipate that many school-based counselors and IECs will begin moving toward such platforms in the same ways that we did with college counseling software (Naviance, Cialfo, BridgeU, UniFrog, MaiaLearning, Scoir, etc). I think it is worth exploring these AI tools, like College Genie, to see how you can incorporate them into your curriculum.

Do not forget to send me things you encounter about the intersection of college counseling and technology! So much is out there I am not aware of!

That all being said, for now, please enjoy this week’s newsletter!

RefBuilder, which I featured last week, is a powerful tool and worth a look. Here’s a video showing how it works.

If interested, please feel free to use the coupon code NEILL50, which was generously provided by Justin, the CEO of the company, for a 50% discount on RefBuilder Pro subscriptions and Bragsheet.ai credits.

Some previous prompts are shared at this link and on my YouTube channel. However, if you have any great prompts or questions about prompting, send me a note at [email protected].

In closing, here’s an interesting statistic from Pew Research about teachers’ feelings about AI in education. Worth reflecting on…

Back to work on Monday for a couple more weeks before the holidays. I hope you all are keeping your feet beneath you in this downhill sprint!

And happy counseling,
