Your Weekly Guide to Leveraging Technology in College Counseling
Welcome to Tech-Neill-ogy #64!
I hope this finds all of you doing well… It was a good, productive week. As we start week 5 here in Brazil, I’m happy to share that is has been the smoothest start to the year in my four years of being here. Here’s a bit more if you are interested.
I’ve received 55 replies to the survey, but I wanted to share it out once more to see if I can up the volume a little but. Survey Monkey says it takes less than 2 minutes to complete, so, if you have not done so already, please do complete this brief survey of just 6 questions on your use of AI to aid me and my partners in an upcoming presentation. Thank you!
In a world of increasing complexity among college admissions practices, this article — my non-tech article of the week — shares some insights into the direct admission efforts of the Common App. This line in particular stands out: “Direct admissions offers prospective students acceptance without first requiring them to apply.”
In any case, enjoy this week’s newsletter!
I don’t think I’ve shared this one before, but it has been really helpful in advertising colleges and universities visiting our campus this year. We’ve had over 110 visitors so far, so getting succinct descriptions out to our students has been super helpful. Give it a try!
Write 5-6 sentence summaries of the following universities. Write them in an appealing way for prospective applicants currently in high school. Include information about location, popular majors, and famous alums, among other interesting facts.
University of Lethbridge
Cornerstone International Community College of Canada
Pace University
Schiller International University
Foothill + De Anza Colleges
This is an assortment of universities coming with a tour group this coming Wednesday. Here’s what it kicked out:

More college visitors this week. I need to start on some letters of recommendation… However, this will be an interesting week as my wife and I will be without our children at home for the first time in memory as they each join their classes in the Brazilian interior for our annual Classroom Without Walls. This shall be interesting…
That said, I hope you all enjoy the rest of the week!
Happy counseling,
Jeff
