Your Weekly Guide to Leveraging Technology in College Counseling

Welcome to Tech-Neill-ogy #98!

It was a wonderful week in New York City at New York University for the annual College Board Summer Institute for International Counselors. I had a couple of great sessions on Artificial Intelligence in the college counseling domain. More to share there eventually. Now I’m on holiday with my family in New England, enjoying the summer months.

This week, if you can take a few minutes to do anything, I suggest you take some time to look at http://www.dreamcollege.ai! This is an incredible, developing platform intended to augment the work of a college counselor. From a student profile, it does a host of things, from suggesting a “position statement” (which I have previously called an “elevator pitch”) to suggesting colleges to recommending majors, extracurricular activities, summer programs, and scholarships to providing essay feedback. It is truly a one-stop tool for many common obstacles for college counselors… and it is still evolving and adding features! Click on the banner below to give it a whirl!

For now, though, enjoy the newsletter!

Building upon my post from last week, I wanted to share another insight about timed ChatGPT posts. Some reported that it would not work for them; I think that this is because you are not using the correct ChatGPT model. Try ChatGPT 4o. It works for me!

You're my AI assistant. Every day at 8:00 AM, I need you to generate: my calendar summary, key reminders, 3 priority tasks, 2 learning insights in high school college counseling, and 1 motivational quote. Make it actionable, focused, and high ROI.

And apologies, but I found this quote somewhere on Instagram, so I had to manually copy it. I feel badly because I cannot cite my source approrpriately!

Also, if you have any great prompts or ideas, please share! Send me a note at [email protected].

In closing, I really enjoyed this article on the integration of hospitality into university recruitment. Take a look:

Enjoy your week! Happy counseling!
